RICOH SELECTS PEGASUS IMAGING FOR DOCUMENT IMAGING TECHNOLOGY |
| TAMPA, FL, September 2, 2004 - Pegasus Imaging Corporation today announces Ricoh Corporation has chosen Pegasus Imaging's software development kits to further empower Ricoh's advanced GlobalScan™ product with its document capture, clean up, and barcode technology. Specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Ricoh's GlobalScan acts as a digital document routing system. It accepts scanned documents from multifunction devices, creates digital files of simple and/or complex documents, and electronically transmits files over a network as an attached e-mail. A solution was needed to quickly identify documents and archive them appropriately. ImagXpress™ Professional and SmartScan Xpress™ Barcode were chosen to integrate this technology into Ricoh's GlobalScan. Individual scanned documents are separated by sheets containing document metadata (e.g. client name, department), represented by barcodes. The application then packages each document with its metadata, and uploads this to a secure, central repository for an organization's documents. From here, the organization can share and route the documents as desired. Pegasus Imaging's SmartScan Xpress Barcode software is integral to the GlobalScan solution as Ricoh needed the ability to programmatically translate the barcodes into text, and store the data in XML for processing. "The versatility of the products from Pegasus Imaging increases the range of GlobalScan, which in turn helps Ricoh customers enhance their applications," said Hede Nonaka, Vice President of Marketing for Ricoh Corporation. "By working with Pegasus, Ricoh hopes to help more end users experience the benefits associated with GlobalScan." Ricoh chose Pegasus Imaging after evaluating the market with specific criteria. First, a package was needed which exposed a COM interface, allowing code to be developed in Visual Basic or Visual C++. Next, Barcodes needed to be read from multi-page TIFF images. Ultimately, using ImagXpress with SmartScan Xpress Barcode Professional, Ricoh engineers empowered GlobalScan to read barcodes in all standard industry formats, automatically deskew the image, and return the text and location of the barcode. Considering these factors, plus performance, support for Microsoft .NET, and a very straightforward programming interface, Ricoh selected Pegasus Imaging.
