LOSSLESS AND NEAR LOSSLESS JPEG-LS COMPRESSION TOOLKIT LAUNCHED BY PEGASUS IMAGING CORPORATION

TAMPA, FL, March 20, 2003 - Pegasus Imaging Corporation, the leader in digital imaging technology, today released the PICTools JPEG-LS™ SDK (software development kit). PICTools JPEG-LS strictly adheres to the JPEG-LS file format specification and provides highly optimized, low-level C libraries that offer excellent lossless and near-lossless compression performance over a broad range of images.

"JPEG-LS represents the state-of-the-art in efficient lossless compression for continuous-tone grayscale and color image data," says Chris Lubeck, vice president of development at Pegasus Imaging Corporation. "It is most applicable to compression of satellite and medical imagery containing detailed color and 256 or more levels of gray. The compressor supports both lossless and sophisticated constrained-loss modes that are perfect for these applications."

As a leader in image compression optimization for over 12 years, Pegasus Imaging is dedicated to providing the best compression possible for various situations. JPEG-LS is the ISO standard based on the LOCO-I algorithm technology first developed by Hewlett-Packard Laboratories. JPEG-LS compression is also supported within the DICOM standard in the medical imaging industry.

PICTools JPEG-LS provides a low-level API (application programmers interface) that offers control of image processing parameters, and the ability to programmatically set compression for lossless or near lossless, and point transform. PICTools JPEG-LS provides compression and decompression of single component 2 to 16-bit grayscale images, and multiple component 24-bit (RGB) images. Three modes of 24-bit (RGB) compression and decompression can be set: Non-interleaved, line-interleaved, or sample-interleaved. Image cropping and file format conversion is also supported.

The complete trial version includes documentation, operation samples, a source sample application and technical support. Visit the Pegasus Imaging website at www.pegasusimaging.com or e-mail sales@jpg.com for more information.
